Music Festival staged in karst cave of Jiuxiang

The first Karst Cave Music Festival was unveiled at the Xiongshi Hall in Jiuxiang Scenic Spot, Yiliang County of Yunnan Province on December 21, providing audience with an new musical feast.

The festival, lasting from December 21 to 23, gathers some well-known symphony orchestras, singers in the country, including the Kunming Nie er Symphony Orchestra. Tourists just need to pay the admission fee of Jiuxiang Scenic Spot to watch the performance.

Covering an area of about 15000 square meters, Xiongshi Hall is the largest karst cave among all karst caves in the country. Without support of peristeles in the middle, the hall is a large whirlpool which was formed naturally by the scour of the water over hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Located in northeastern part of Yiliang County, Jiuxiang Scenic Spot is 90 kilometers from downtown Kunming. It is well-known for its karst caves, natural sights, and ethnic folklore. With the largest cave group in Yunnan, Jiuxiang has won the reputation of "A Home to Caves".

Admission fee: 90 yuan per person; ropeway: 30 yuan per person

Travel tips:

1. You can take the Kunming—Yiliang County express bus at Kunming Eastern Bus Station. The ticket price is about seventeen to twenty yuan (one way). Then take the No. 21 Suburban Bus at Penglai Parking Lot to Jiuxiang Scenic Spots and the ticket price is seven to ten yuan (one way).

2. Taking a taxi from the downtown of Kunming to Jiuxiang Scenic Spot costs 300 yuan to 500 yuan.
