[InKunming--Sister Cities]  Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said it welcomes and supports a ceasefire proposal by Egypt, and urged all Gaza-concerned parties to work towards it.

"We are deeply concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian crisis and the continued conflict in Gaza," an MFA spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

Egypt presented a five-point initiative for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip Monday, calling for a ceasefire on the ground, and then inviting the warring parties to go to Cairo for a detailed agreement.

While Israel announced it will agree to an Egypt-backed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Hamas has rejected it.

"We are encouraged by Israel and the Palestinian National Authority's acceptance of the proposal, and we hope Hamas will do likewise," said the MFA spokesman.

MFA urged all sides to work closely with Egypt.

"The immediate priority for all sides is to work towards a ceasefire, bring an end to the suffering and loss of innocent lives, and allow humanitarian assistance to reach the affected areas."
