Famous "Laokandao" rice noodles in Luxi County, Yunnan

“Laokandao” indeed is a nickname for a landlady, who runs a restaurant selling rice noodles. The word “Laokandao” is used for describing people who are very severe and harsh to others in dialectal words in Yunnan.
The landlady fixed a very high price for each bowl of rice noodle in her restaurant, widely higher than that of the average market price. “Laokandao”, the word here are used to describe that price of the landlady’s rice noodle is very high and has no bargaining space.
Any person who attempts to bargain with the landlady will be scolded by the landlady. However, crowds of local people and tourists who heard about the restaurant are still keen on buying bowls of rice noodles from the landlady.

Under normal conditions, the landlady charges 20 yuan for each bowl of rice noodle, yet a smaller bowl of rice noodle may be charged 30 yuan.
Although the price of each bowl of rice noodle in “Laokandao” restaurant is very high, local people and many other tourists remain holding a lenient attitude to the landlady. Reason for this phenomenon is because that taste of rice noodles made by “Lao Kandao” landlady is delicious. Besides, the landlady who looks very fierce has a lot of legendary stories about business in the Luxi County.
