Five seagull-watching places you cannot miss in Kunming

[InKunming--Kunming]  Although it’s already winter, Kunming is still warm and charming for most of the time. Such cozy environment attracts tens of thousands of seagulls from Siberia flying to Kunming every year to hibernate. With the arrival of seagulls, Kunming entered the seagull-watching season. Here are 5 seagull-watching places absolutely cannot miss .

Haigeng Park (海埂公园)

Haigeng Park is located in the southern suburbs of Kunming city. South of the park is connected to Dianchi Lake, which has 2.5 kilometers of shoreline. About 2,000 seagulls fly above the lake and beg for food every day.

Taking a walk in the park, visitors can hang a wishing card to pray for blessing, and can also take a telpher to enjoy the full view of Dianchi Lake. The most important thing is that you can watch likeable seagulls flying up and down. It’s a delightful place to visit.

Time: 7 am-7 pm

Haigeng Dam (海埂大坝)

Haigeng Dam is the place where seagulls gather most. More than 7,000 seagulls appear every day, attracting millions of visitors to feed and to take photos. This year, breadth of Haigeng dam was widened from 8 meters to 16 meters, and the area of activity was doubled as well. The new dam offers the public a scenic view of West Mountain and a good time with more than 7,000 seagulls.

Time: 7:30 am-6:30 pm

Daguan Park (大观公园)

Daguan Park is near Dianchi Lake. It’s also an ideal choice to watch seagulls. There are about 3,000 seagulls flying around the pavilions and frolicking in the park everyday. Visitors are able to come here to experience the combination of Chinese ancient buildings and lovely seagulls, as well as to enjoy the unique scenery of the spring city.

Time: 10 am-5 pm

Huanxi Bridge (环西桥)

About 2,500 seagulls fly to Huanxi Bridge from Haigeng dam in the morning, and flying back in the evening. Citizens who live nearby are convenient to watch and fed seagulls. Besides seagulls, there is also egrets hovering above the water.

Time: 10 am-4 pm

Cuihu Park (翠湖公园)

The best place to watch seagulls in urban Kunming is Cuihu Park. It is a free-entry park with nearly 6,000 seagulls. As winter approaching, many tourists like to visit here and bring delicious food for their ‘old friends’. The seagulls season lasts until march of the following year.
