Glossy ibis seen at Shiping Yilong Lake National Wetland Park

[InKunming--Yunnan] Following the settlement of purple swamphen, glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), a wildlife under special state protection was seen at Shiping Yilong Lake National Wetland Park. After careful protection of bird species in the region, and gradual restoration of wetland ecosystems, Yilong Lake National Wetland Park has become a paradise for rare birds to inhabit.

"We found 7 large birds flying in the sky and they were later identified as glossy ibis by experts." Wu Chaoxiong,director of Shiping Yilonghu National Wetland Park Administration, introduced that 120 million yuan was invested in ecological protection projects since 2014, returning more than 18,000 mu of farmland, ponds and fields to lakes.

In the 1980s, researchers discovered that Yilong Lake is one of the most important habitats for purple swamphen in Yunnan Province. Since 1994, Yunnan Province has publicized the Regulations on the Protection and Management of Yilong Lake. At present, more than 460 purple swamphen has been bred and survived steadily at Yilong Lake, reaching the highest population amount in history.
