看昆明2From Dianchi comes the wind, laden with coffee scent. At 11:30 a.m. on August 9, by the shimmering water of Dianchi Lake, accompanied by melodious traditional music, the 2025 Dianchi International Coffee Culture Carnival commenced under the theme "Sharing with the World, Coexisting with All Beings."
This 9-day international cultural fair marks the first-ever collaboration between the eastern and western banks of Dianchi Lake, featuring over 20 themed activities and more than 80 performances. Using coffee as a medium, the event showcases Kunming's open and inclusive spirit while highlighting innovative practices in cultural and tourism integration.

The Dai Divine Peacock Dance: A Mystic Legacy

At the opening ceremony, the provincial intangible cultural heritage—Dai Divine Peacock Dance—captivated the audience. Two inheritors, adorned with golden cloud-patterned masks and resplendent winged-shoulder robes, carried bamboo-crafted bird-shaped frames on their backs as they danced gracefully to the melodious music. With perfect harmony, they blended the avian creatures' agile movements with the Dai martial art’s dynamic strength-kneeling reverently, fluttering wings delicately, trotting briskly-their every gesture vividly resurrecting the mythical phoenix couple's unwavering devotion and vibrant vitality.

A local resident exclaimed excitedly,“This dance is absolutely amazing! It not only showcases the charm of traditional culture but also blends it with modern coffee culture in a refreshing way. It’s truly a perfect example of cultural heritage and innovation!”

As the divine dance captivated the audience, visitors were ushered into the Southeast Asian Coffee Village. At the Vietnamese brand Trung Nguyen Legend’s booth, chief representative He Weibiao enthusiastically introduced their full range of products spanning instant, freeze-dried, and capsule coffee. “We’re particularly excited to explore the creative synergy between Vietnamese and Yunnan coffee beans,” remarked He. Nearby, Thailand’s Chiang Mai LIBAELLY booth drew bustling crowds, with their premium Thai single-origin beans attracting numerous coffee connoisseurs. “The mellow richness of Yunnan coffee perfectly complements the fruity notes of Southeast Asian varieties,” shared their representative, “we see tremendous potential for collaboration here.”

The next 9 days promise wonderful experiences—whether savoring aromatic coffee at tasting sessions, witnessing multicultural performances, enjoying leisurely daytime activities, or joining vibrant nighttime celebrations. This immersive festival will offer citizens and visitors a complete sensory feast of delights.

Unprecedented Scale, Cross-Sector Collaboration

As Kunming’s flagship cultural-tourism event, this carnival breaks new ground in both scale and scope. It tripled its global coffee truck fleet, with over 100 trucks lining Dianchi’s greenways. The globally recruited mobile coffee fleet has expanded to over three times last year's scale, with more than 100 coffee trucks lining the Dianchi Greenway like a flowing panorama. On the eastern bank, baristas from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore have set up vibrant specialty booths, while coffee growers from Baoshan and Pu’er in Yunnan await discerning customers with freshly roasted beans. Meanwhile on the western bank, motorcycle trendsetters are fine-tuning their sound systems—marking the grand opening of a Yunnan-meets-global coffee carnival.

Eastbank for Leisure, Westbank for Fun.

The east-west pairing is this year’s defining feature. The eastern bank crystallizes its vision around “With the World, Art, Land, and Lifestyle,” establishing Kunming’s premier arts hub. Meanwhile, the western bank anchors on “Embracing the Future,” curating youth-focused experiential zones. This strategic zoning transcends physical expansion, achieving optimal tourism resource allocation through differentiated positioning. Visitors can savor the artistic alchemy where heritage meets avant-garde on the east, while indulging in cutting-edge attractions like hot-air-balloon EDM parties on the west - all amidst Dianchi Lake's 22°C breezes and multicultural coffee experiences.

In terms of multi-dimensional coordination, Meituan Travel and Kunming Culture and Tourism Bureau announced the national premiere of its heavyweight cultural tourism IP - the “Beauty at Destination” program in Kunming. “Beauty in Kunming” has become the first flagship demonstration case of this IP. This collaboration marks Meituan Travel's deep participation in destination cultural tourism construction through its platform ecosystem resources, supporting high-quality development of tourism destinations.

East Bank: A Cultural and Artistic Feast

The eastern shore of Dianchi has meticulously crafted four thematic zones, presenting a profound dialogue between coffee, art, and ecology.

The “With the World” zone features a Southeast Asian Coffee Culture Collective, bringing together leading coffee brands from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore to showcase their distinctive regional coffee-making traditions. On August 14, the CoE Yemen PCA International Evaluation will be held, featuring Yunnan's coffee expert panel conducting blind assessments of Yemeni coffee beans. From the 16th to 17th, the area will stage Southeast Asia’s first professional coffee cupping competition, establishing an industry exchange platform following international competition standards.

“With Art” presents a non-stop artistic feast. By day, three small stages host rotating performances of jazz, blues, and reggae music. At night, the “East bank IN Light” immersive installation transforms the greenway into a luminous art experience. Yunnan Poet Yu Jian will collaborate with multiple bands from August 9–10 and 14–17 at the “Stage One” open-air music festival, creating a six-day fusion of poetry and music in a boundary-crossing artistic collaboration.

“With the Land” traces cultural roots in Yunnan coffee. Growers from Pu’er and Baoshan will guide visitors through the terroir stories of ethnic minority coffee regions, transforming agricultural products into “a medium of ethnic cultural expression.”

“With Lifestyles” features eight “Coffee+” pop-up clubs linking diverse scenarios - from markets and handicrafts to aesthetic lounges.

Vibrant West Bank: The Future is Now

The western bank of Dianchi, themed “Embracing the Future,” creates a 24/7 experiential zone dubbed “West Bank Around the Clock.”

On August 15, the West Bank Coffee Music Festival will ignite summer revelry at the main stage with live performances by Liu Shuang, Wild Mushroom Band, Fierce Tiger Band, and Moxi Zishi Band. Daily cloud-top music parties invite visitors to board hot-air balloons for panoramic lake views while the Low-Altitude Park merges coffee culture with poetic landscapes of mountains and water.

The Future Carnival merges guófēng aesthetics with anime culture, launching an immersive summer extravaganza on August 9. Social media influencers like “Tantan QAQ” and “Chi Le Ge Chi X” will make special appearances. Designer Qiao Xiaodao debuts his three-story mobile coffee art installation “Nomadic Future” – paired with “Lilliputian” fantasy performances – to craft a hyper-futuristic coffee dimension.

Six Unique “Play & Fun” Tribes

The Motorcycle Tribe, Dopamine Sports Tribe, Furry Friends Tribe, Celebration Tribe, and Leisure Tribe form the six core tribes. Top influencer “Tao Tao” will perform live motorcycle stunts, while an all-female riding team presents dazzling motorcycle stunt shows, where metallic glimmer intertwines with mechanical roars, exuding a cutting-edge futuristic vibe that has become a must-visit hotspot for trendy enthusiasts.

Centered around cats and dogs, the Furry Friends Tribe creates “Meowtopia” and “Bark Nation” theme parks, with over 100 adorable pets appearing on the green lawn, offering visitors new cat-petting experiences.

The attendance of some uncommon pooper-scoopers and their “owners” make special appearances at the Westbank venue of the Coffee Carnival, showcasing the unique charm of each pet-themed tribe and building diverse experiential scenarios.

Sports like skateboarding, archery tag, and Rubik’s cube puzzles allow young people to showcase their athleticism and vitality at the West Bank venue.

Over 100 coffee trucks within and beyond Yunnan pose your own romance amidst the relaxed and comfortable sunset scenery.

Industry Empowered City a New IP

The 2025 Dianchi International Coffee Culture Carnival, running through August 17, has not only painted Kunming’s global identity with coffee aromas but also framed its vibrant cultural tourism brand against the ecological backdrop of Dianchi. Its significance transcends cultural programming—last year’s debut edition drew 650,000 participants, generating nearly 100 million yuan in consumption, with this year’s iteration further amplifying industrial synergies.

Yunnan’s coffee heartlands like Pu’er and Baoshan unveiled collective showcases, while Kunming’s Commerce Bureau distributed “Colorful Yunnan” consumer vouchers for genuine public benefits. Designated dairy sponsor Xuelan Milk debuted its first line of fresh milk specifically crafted for coffee brewing, embodying symbiotic innovation through “dairy + coffee.” The event deepened integration between coffee supply chains and cultural tourism consumption, with FMCG brands constructing omnichannel experiences spanning dining, lodging, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment.

Evolving from “viral phenomenon” to “full-scale upgrade,” the carnival is maturing into Kunming’s signature IP. Kunming Culture and Tourism Group announced plans to develop the “Dianchi Coffee Corridor” in Caohai District, institutionalizing coffee culture beyond the festival. The theme “Coexisting with All Beings” aligns perfectly with Dianchi’s “macro-ecology, mega-wetlands, grand-scenery” vision, catalyzing the translation of ecological value into socioeconomic dividends.
