Dialogue for Cooperation, Amplifying the Global South’s Voice

The Yunnan Consensus of the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum was released at the opening ceremony on September 6th.

The Global South Media and Think Tank Forum 2025 was held from September 5 to September 9, in Kunming, Yunnan China. About 500 representatives from more than 260 institutions across 110 countries, as well as international and regional organizations, were engaged in dialogue for exchanges and cooperation to amplify the voice of developing countries on the world stage. Under the theme“Empowering Global South, Navigating Global Changes,” the forum is the second edition following a previous one in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2024. Key topics of the forum included: building consensus on peace, identifying new drivers of development, broadening cooperation and advancing dialogue among civilizations.

On September 6th, guests from various countries welcomed the adoption of the Yunnan Consensus.

During the forum, several outcome documents were released, including the the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum Yunnan Consensus and a think tank report titled “Responding to the Call of the Times: China’s Contributions to Global Public Intellectual Products.” The event also marks the formal launch of the Global South Joint Communication Partnership Network.

On September 7th, guests attending the Global South World Heritage Forum toured the Chengjiang Fossil Site World Natural Heritage Museum.

On September 6th, guests from various countries communicated with the “Global South Sound” at the opening ceremony.

On September 5th, the Cambodian delegation visited the Yunnan Museum to feel the charm of Yunnan culture.

Throughout the event, the Yunnan experience was shared through the main forum and several themed sub-forums. Taking advantage of the international platform provided by the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum, mainstream media journalists and think tank scholars from Global South countries were organized to take part in field visits and research activities. These engagements provided them with opportunities to  explore more vivid practices of Chinese modernization, as reflected in what is known as the “Yunnan Way of Life.”

On September 5th, the Myanmar delegation performed the Welcoming Guests with Laughter at the “Global South Night” cultural showcase.

On September 5th, guests shared the experience of “Yunnan Way of Life” at the South and Southeast Asian Media Network (SSAMN) Annual Meeting 2025.

On September 5th, the Cambodian delegation performed the Robam Kuos Tralaok (Coconut shell Dance) at the “Global South Night” cultural showcase.
