Recently, along the Dianchi Greenway near downtown Kunming, the pink muhly grass (also named Muhlenbergia capillaris) is in full bloom. Vast stretches of soft pink flower spikes spread across the green fields like mist, creating a dreamy scene. In the golden autumn sunlight, the flowers appear even more delicate and enchanting, drawing large crowds of residents and visitors eager to capture the beauty on camera and revel in this unique seasonal romance.

Summer’s heat still lingers, but autumn’s breeze has already arrived, bringing with it an invitation to admire the pink muhly grass blooming along the Dianchi Greenway.

Its soft pink hues, resembling mist, clouds, or a shattered sunset, surpass the vivid colors of midsummer roses and the boldness of autumn chrysanthemums. Gently blanketing the fields, it invites every lover of autumn to come and enjoy.

“These pink blooms are so delicate and beautiful—especially appealing to women like me. I usually bike here, but today, I made a special trip just to take photos. They’re stunning! Yunnan is breathtaking, and Kunming even more so—perfect for cycling and marathons. It’s such a great place to live and visit. I’m so proud of our city.” a citizen said.

It photographs beautifully, so I made a special trip today just to capture it. These flowers are unique—probably something only Kunming has." another one added.

Suddenly, an ocean of pink unfolds: slender stems crowned with feathery plumes sway in layered waves with the wind, casting a soft, rosy glow even on the sunlight.

Up close, you’ll notice the delicate hairs on each flower spike glimmering in the sunlight. Touch them gently—they’re soft as clouds, as though a rough touch might disturb their fragile beauty.

Young women in pastel dresses pose with their cameras, blending into the sea of pink. Cyclists in vibrant outfits pause to snap selfies, becoming part of the picturesque scene themselves.
